we live in a society increasingly absorbed in asserting and defining the self. yet, as this notion of a consolidated “me” becomes more robust, our ability to engage with the other, another “me,” grows ever more precarious. this exhibition reflects upon such contemporary sensibilities, probing the instability of relationships and the (im)possibility of connection. rohwajeong proposes that the relational (im)possibility can emerge through a subversion of binary structures.
rohwajeong (yunhee roh and hyunseok jeong) is an artist duo who has worked under a singular name for over fifteen years. as two independent subjectivities forming a single artistic body, they have drawn upon the tension, collision, and persuasion arising between multiple agents as the driving force of their practice. in this exhibition, rohwajeong defers fixed meanings, punctures the system of signifier and signified, and generates delays in meaning and layers of subversive play through signs, images, and devices. the recurring motif of wires throughout the exhibition traverses roles—as medium, support, or sculptural element—linking each work while evoking a relationality and an ethics of sensation. through the inversion of subject and object, it prompts the viewer to reconsider how we might rebuild layered connections in a time of individualized isolation.
yesterday’s surprise calls for a sensitivity to what glimmers. it asks for a subjectivity capable of responsiveness, grounded in an ethics of sensing. by capturing moments of pure surprise, the exhibition summons forgotten relationships and nameless presences, leading the viewer to imagine a landscape where momentary surprise relates to a different “me” that is not “me.
오늘날 우리는 ‘나’를 세우고 표명하는 데 몰두하는 사회 속에 살고 있다. 그러나 보다 견고해지는 ‘나’가 있는 반면, 또 다른 ‘나’인 타자와의 관계는 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이번 전시는 이러한 시대적 정서 속에 관계의 불안정성과 연결의 불/가능성을 탐구하는 전시다. 로와정은 이분법적 구조의 전복을 통한 관계의 연결 불/가능성을 제안한다.
로와정(노윤희, 정현석)은 두 명의 개별적 주체가 하나의 이름으로 활동해온 아티스트 듀오로, 이들은 지난 15년이 넘는 시간 동안 둘 이상의 주체가 만드는 긴장, 충돌, 설득의 과정을 예술적 실천의 동력으로 삼아왔다. 이번 전시에서 로와정은 명확한 지시를 유예하고, 기표-기의 체계에 틈을 내며, 기호, 이미지, 장치를 통해 의미의 지연과 이중적 유희를 발생시킨다. 나아가 전시를 관통하는 소재인 ‘전선’은 매개체, 지지체, 조형적 요소 등 다양한 기능을 횡단하며 모든 작품을 잇는 역할을 수행한다. 이는 주체/객체의 전복을 통한 관계 맺기와 감각의 윤리를 환기하며, 개인화되고 단절된 상황을 넘어 우리가 다층적 관계를 어떻게 다시 맺을 수 있을지를 묻는다.
《어제의 놀라움》은 빛나고 있는 것을 감지하려는 태도, 즉 감응하는 주체의 감각과 윤리를 요청한다. 이 전시는 순수한 놀라움의 찰나를 붙잡고, 그 틈 사이로 잊힌 관계들, 이름 없는 존재들을 다시 호출하며, 관람객들로 하여금 ‘나’와 또 다른 ‘나’가 만나는 지형을 그려내도록 이끈다.
