Day 1.
Day 2.
[세션4] 토론 및 Q&A

)
Day 2.
“What language can we speak within this fractured world?”
This program celebrates the launch of the publication Patchwork!, related to the exhibition of the same name held in Seoul last year. The exhibition Patchwork! took fragmentation, an inevitable characteristic of the contemporary moment, as a starting point for rewriting the world. The exhibition sought to question traditional narrative structures and restore narratives as a “perforated body.” It sought to visually structure the stories woven from fragmented images and texts and the gaps between them, and to unravel non-linear and discontinuous thought itself as an aesthetic practice. The four participating artists─Sunho Park, Imzizi, Natsumi Aoyagi, and Tomoko Sato─presented works that describe the world anew through artistic practices originating from auto-theoretical essays, recorded history and embodied memory, speculative narratives, and expanded leaps of thought.
In the talk session(Day 1. Aug 21), which brings together the curator and the four participating artists, the conceptual structure and curatorial direction of the exhibition Patchwork!, along with the works of each participating artist, will be shared with creators in Tokyo. Furthermore, by transferring the senses shared within the limited time and space of the exhibition into the printed medium of publication, the talk will discuss the possibilities of publication not as an act closing the exhibition, but as a practice that reopens it. The seminar session(Day 2. Aug 22) invites artists and researchers from both countries who cross the boundaries between language and image, expanding the exhibition outward. Literary researcher·writer Jiseung Kim(Korea, based in Seoul), poet·artist Liyoun Kim(Korea, based in Berlin), artist·researcher Mitsue Kitagawa(Japan, based in Tokyo), and artist·poet Natsumi Aoyagi(Japan, based in Tokyo) will participate as panelists to discuss intertextuality based on difference and proximity, the practice of writing that opens rather than closes the subject, the (im)possibility of translation between text and image, and relations that expand without reducing the other.

[Program Details]
Day 1. Talk
The Place of Woven Stories, the Beginning of the Next Sentence
(Panel: Natsumi Aoyagi, Imzizi, Sunho Park, Tomoko Sato, Jaemin Shin | Moderator: Jaemin Shin | Interpreter: Yuki Konno)
The curator and the four participating artists look back on the exhibition Patchwork! held in Seoul last year. The curator will introduce the concept of the exhibition, and the four participating artists will share their methodologies for responding to this concept through moving images and performance. In addition, they will share the process of transferring the senses shared in the exhibition into printed media, reconsidering the publication not as an act of closing the exhibition, but as an act of reopening it.
Day 2. Seminar
[Session 1] Critique and Feminine Writing as responding to the other (Presenter: Jiseung Kim | Interpreter: Hyesu Cho)
If writing begins with the other passing through one’s own body, the act of writing becomes the process of re-establishing the relationship between the other and oneself. Jiseung Kim, who has continued her lectures and multidisciplinary research while repeatedly building and dismantling the spaces of feminine reading-and-writing, will speak on the act of writing while re-sensing her own positionality moment by moment, both inside and outside boundaries.
*Jiseung Kim will join online.
[Session 2] How can we speak of the (Un)translatable gap? (Presenter: Mitsue Kitagawa | Interpreter: Yuki Konno)
Artist and researcher Mitsue Kitagawa deals with irreducible affairs that cannot be wholly grasped as one’s own, such as the experiences of others or forgotten moments of the past. Kitagawa captures the subtle misalignments that inevitably emerge between events, materials, and language by reconstructing past, irreversible occurrences within physical spaces. In this session, the act of reconstructing these irreducible affairs will be discussed as a form of “rewriting.” The ontological gaps the artist has addressed will be expanded to explore the relationship between the mediums, text and image.
[Session 3] Writing as the shaping of multiple images beyond symbolic systems (Presenter: Liyoun Kim | Interpreter: Hyesu Cho)
How can the gaps that signs inevitably fail to contain be shaped into multiple images by borrowing the vessel of language? Liyoun Kim, who moves between language, including poetry and prose, and visual image, treats language not as a concrete sign but as a field where images emerge and dissolve in provisional forms. This session explores how poetic images crossing the gaps of language acquire a physical body, how they are lost and transformed in the process of being transmitted to others through translation and seeing, and ultimately, how they create connections with others.
*Liyoun Kim will join online.
[Session 4] Discussion & Q&A
(Panelists: Jiseung Kim, Mitsue Kitagawa, Liyoun Kim, Natsumi Aoyagi | Moderator: Jaemin Shin | Interpreter: Yuki Konno)
The four panelists and the curator gather to place the questions derived from the preceding sessions onto a table. They will explore how individual stories can be connected across the distinct terrains of literature and visual art, Seoul and Tokyo, and the exhibition and the publication.
