The WilloW, is a creative space, located in Gyeongdong Market of Jegi-dong.
In the space made for the function of a feed storage in 1955, even before Gyeongdong Market’s opening in 1960, the creative space The WilloW officially opened in August 2023. As seen in the local characteristics of the creative space situated in a traditional market with more than 60 years of tradition, The WilloW focuses on the collision between different elements and pursues a sensuous mix and match. The WilloW team considers new configurations and arrangements, which can create different perspectives in an unconventional context, and also support a combination of disparate elements and various formal experiments.
더 윌로(The WilloW)는 제기동 경동시장에 위치한 크리에이티브 스페이스(Creative Space)입니다.
경동시장이 개설된 1960년보다도 이전인 1955년 사료창고로 만들어졌던 공간에, 2023년 8월 더 윌로가 공식적으로 문을 열었습니다. 60여 년의 장소성을 지닌 전통시장 속 크리에이티브 스페이스란 지리적 특성에서 드러나듯, 더 윌로는 상충하는 요소들 사이의 충돌 지점에 주목하며 감각적인 믹스 앤 매치(Mix and Match)를 추구합니다. 작업이 기존과 다른 맥락에 놓였을 때 새로운 시각으로 읽힐 수 있는 구성과 배치를 고민하고, 이질적인 요소들의 조합 및 다양한 형식적 실험을 지지합니다.

To show the balance and timelessness that The WilloW pursues, the new brand logo is designed based on ‘Egizio,’ a font created in 1955, the same year as The WilloW. The left-right reversed shape of the two ‘W’s signifies the placeness between the past and the present. The WilloW maintains a similar appearance to its past as a storage, but now it has entirely different contents as a creative space. By reversing the rough texture of the space, the contrasting brand color shows the keywords of The WilloW: balance, collision, on boundaries, and mix and match.

더 윌로가 추구하는 균형감과 타임리스(timeless)한 감각을 보여주고자, 새롭게 선보이는 브랜드 로고는 공간이 탄생한 1955년과 같은 해에 태어난 서체인 ‘Egizio’를 토대로 디자인되었습니다. 시작과 끝에 위치한 두 개의 ‘W’의 좌우가 반전된 형태는 과거와 현재 사이의 장소성을 의미합니다. 사료창고였던 과거의 공간과 형태적 유사성을 갖지만 완전히 다른 이야기를 담는 크리에이티브 스페이스로서 현재의 공간을 떠올릴 수 있습니다. 70여 년의 시간성을 지닌 공간이 주는 분위기와 반전되는 브랜드 컬러는 더 윌로의 키워드인 ‘균형, 상충과 충돌, 경계 위, 믹스 앤 매치’를 보여줍니다.
